Zune Premium Earphones Review

The Zune 80 has a special "bonus" feature, it ships with premium earbuds at no extra cost. The premium earphones look great with fancy nylon wrapped cords and magnetic backs that lock to keep things organized. They come with 3 extra sets of soft rubber covers to match the user's ear size. They feel really soft and comfortable, especially compared to regular earbuds. .




We had some initial problems with the premium earphones. It seemed lower and mid range frequencies were completely lacking. Fortunately after inserting the buds deeper and deeper down the ear canal a seal was finally made. For the first time things sounded good, and there was a reasonable amount of bass. In fact, compared to the regular earbuds the bass was about 30% stronger and the midrange was well defined. By comparison the regular earbuds sounded like all the frequencies were getting mashed together. With the premium earbuds each sound and frequency was distinct and less distorted. In conclusion the premium earphones sound great, but only when a proper seal is made.
